Confirming Colours

Yesterday we got an email from Shanna at Richcraft (she was/is our designer) asking for a clarification of the colour of our back splash tiles. There were 3 tile colours on the sample that we choose and she wrote down the model but not the colour.

She took the time time to layout our kitchen counter and cabinet colours to make sure that we were making an informed decision. We went with the colours that we had chosen the first time. The lighter colour of tile, the darker was just too close to the cabinet colour.

A Centimeter Makes All The Difference

Sometimes it amazes me how much difference a centimeter can make in the grand scheme of things, well actually 2 centimeters. Last week I purchased 3 sets of blinds for the back windows of the house from Ikea. Before purchasing I measured the windows and they were a perfectly standard 24" wide, but more than 7 feet tall. When I got to Ikea I checked the size of the blinds; 60cm. That sounds like 24" right? Well actually it is 22 3/4" which is close. I bought 3 of them hoping that they would work, all together they cost $205 (taxes in).

After checking them they were about half an inch too narrow -you could just see glass on either side of the blind-, so they were returned. As they were returned the guy who worked at Ikea just kinda shrugged and muttered Didn't fit?. I am guessing that it is pretty common for the blinds to be just different enough that they won't work.

Now the current situation: I went to Home Depot to determine how much 3 sets of blinds that will actually fit will cost. $300. A piece! $900 + tax! Turns out that the two centimeters of difference will cost in excess of $800.

Needless to say I haven't ordered any blinds from Home Depot (or similarly priced Sears). I am looking at other options, but I am quite frustrated that the few centimeters is causing such a huge issue.

House Is Getting Close

Fifty-eight days may sound like a long time. For some things it is a long time, but when it comes to a house closing its damn close. It seems like yesterday that it was 125 days; and now we are less than 2 months out. There has been a great deal of progress along the way -you can see all of it at: House Photos-, and now we are at the point where it might be a little harder to stay up-to-date.

When we showed up today the front and garage door were locked; the back door did not have a handle on it, we got lucky. You see we haven't been out yet in October and since I finally got my video camera going -that is a subject for another blog- the plan was to do a quick video tour of the house so far. I figured that with my luck it would be locked for sure; as I said early we got a little lucky.

The house is coming along very nicely. For anyone who hasn't been following its the Brier Hill, which has about 1750 sq/ft. Its completely drywalled now, but unlike our neighbour's houses they haven't done any of the mudding -its probably because we are only taking possession in December whereas our neighbours are all taking possession at the earliest possible time; in early November. I anticipate that from here on forward the house will either have no change or the doors will be locked, I do want the doors locked once they start doing the finishing work.

So watch the video and enjoy the tour, I'm sorry for the crappy commentary I really had no idea what I should be saying.

I edited some photos:
